Happy Friday, fam(s)!
We hope everyone has been enjoying what's starting to actually feel like a Spring season outside, albeit with a side of chilly days and wind-ruined night cyphs. Hang in there y'all — we're deeef closer to the warmer month of May than you may think! Ok, I attempted a pun there — sue me!
Now today makes for an extra special occasion, as we get to send the ultimate shoutout to someone who many consider to be one of the greatest rappers in the game right now: The Cokane Rabbit himself, Freddie Gibbs.
Yes, the Gary, Indiana-bred emcee is the latest to keep things all the way fresh in Lafayette. Gibbs, who EEEEYE personally feel was robbed for Best Rap Album at the Grammys recently, has been through a series of both wins and losses in his illustrious career. It's now finally looking like the big homie will have his victory lap year in 2021 (maybe 2022?) after dropping this SSS album we've all been hearing about alongside hit producers like Pharrell, Hit-Boy and Mike WiLL Made-It just to name a very small few.
From his earliest mixtapes like 2004's Full Metal Jackit and its follow-up Full Metal Jackit Vol. 2, to more refined projects like the 2014 fan-favorite Piñata — one of his many "MadGibbs" collab projects with superproducer Madlib — and the most recent masterpiece he created in 2020 with Alfredo alongside The Alchemist, the legacy Gibbs has been building on the outskirts of the industry is all starting to formulate into a Cinderella story of sorts. We're just glad he's dressed up in all the right gear in time for the "big ball" that's about to be his career if all goes well.
Not only did the "FBC" emcee rock our classic LFYT French Revolution All Over Logo Pullover Sweatshirt ($200; seen above) while hanging with the bawse Rick Ross not too long ago, he also gave our tees some love while making his rounds on the move.
First was a photo of him and longtime manager Ben “Lambo” Lambert in Miami, looking cleeeean in our LFYT x Mary J. Blige Real Love Tee ($60; seen above), dedicated to The Queen Of Hip-Hop Soul herself. As if he didn't already give us enough style props, Gibbs even brought his Lafayette flex into a recent studio session with Lil Yachty and Swae Lee — that's about to sound wiiild! —by pulling up in a LFYT x Nas World Is Yours L/S Tee. The ironic fact that he's honoring the rap legend who took his Best Rap Album trophy doesn't go unnoticed on me. Again, MYEEE opinion!
And *all jokes*, Esco stans — I'm one, too!
Overall, shoutout a million times again to the homie Freddie Gibbs for staying fresh in the flyest fashions we have to offer — come back for more anytime, fam!
Take a listen to Alfredo below, and see why I rock with my fellow bald-headed homie so heavy:
