For Jackie Robinson Day we’re taking inspiration from Deon Sanders in 1997 while playing for the Cincinnati Reds he wanted to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Jackie Robinson.
Inspired from images that showed Jackie wearing jerseys with sleeves that were not as long as the Red’s road uniforms. Sanders then altered his sleeves on his jersey. National League officials were fine with the modification provided that all Reds uniforms were shortened. The Reds wore vests during home games for the remaining of the season.
